For Abe, Beth, Brian, Dana, Matt & Tarah
(in alphabetical order)
I've been working in an engineering environment for ever. First Philips, than Siemens. I always enjoyed the company of the nerds, and now that I'm working in a design agency I'm even more convinced than ever that engineers are not only artists, but also fit a lot of the clichès people have about artist. They are just as cool.
Then I went to Colorado. Far from Silicon Valley, to a ranch, that hosts a pottery and is run by a painter. I was looking forward to the change and be away once from all technical stuff. Of course there was web wizard Vincent, but that didn't really count.
But fate had different plans for me. First of all, taking care of the web site, actually: creating it, administrating all the computers (yes, plural) became my no. 1 priority and kept me on track on the technical side. Vincent did all the advanced stuff, I learned so much from him. What we both couldn't do, Vincent because he had a full time job and I because I never learned pearl programming, was writing a script for our order form. So my boss started to look for a programmer - that's how I met Tarah, who then wrote our order form, until I finally installed a proper shopping cart.
Tarah and I clicked instantly, not only because she actually speaks German
(pretty cute: she even has a schwäbish accent, just picture me with a strong Texas accent).
It wasn't long until I met the whole crowd. I fell in love instantly and I still am.
I was in nerd country once more - I felt so much at home & safe. I miss them terribly. I miss the
teasing, the Sunday evenings (and looking back even Matt's comments on X-file, for which I could have
killed him at the time,) Brian & Beth's cooking, Brians impersonation of Homer Simpson,
oh, there is no end.
Therefor those guys are the only ones entitled for
The Award for Best Brain
Why the dorky Nerd? Think of the reputation - no taste in clothes and big glasses. I looked up if nerdsex.com really existed (it doesn't, or better: didn't at that time.) What you can't see in the picture is that I even designed a screen for the notebook, taken from some gay porn website.
What makes me proud most is the home they chosed for the Nerd Barbie: Matt's shrine. I feel honoured.
Thank you, guys!
