I had Barbies when I was a kid. Only one "real" Barbie though. I wasn't into the
"princess" or any fancy kind of Barbie stuff. But my Barbies, or better: Barbie-like
dolls, were of a not to be underrated therapeutical effect, as they helped me to handle the problems an
everyday child must go through. Besides, I was spoiled with the whole range of Big Jim's
and Action Men that my cousin allowed me to play with when I visited him. Which was very
very often. So from an early age on I knew that the world of dolls didn't only
consist the female ones. It didn't work the other way round though, it was hard to
convince my cousin that the world of his dolls should not consist of male ones only. He
refused to accept the fact that girls play a major role in a man's life. But at that age,
boys are in general a bit further behind us girls when it comes to, well, development.
The last time I saw my Barbies was when the 70's and therefor my childhood drew their
last breath. I took them to a friend, we played "shooting movies", I left them at her
house not knowing I would never play with them again. Ever.
